High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU)

The unfortunate truth is that as we age, both the muscles and fat pad deposits of our faces start to gradually descend.  This increase in loose tissue, particularly in the jowl area, can have a very ageing effect. Additionally, it has the effect of making us look more stern, sadder or more tired than we actually are. A procedure called High Intensity Focused Ultrasound, also known as the "Ultrasound Face-lift", is now the most popular lifting treatment in the world for the facial and neck rejuvenation. There are visible effects in lifting and tightening facial skin even after a single session. It works by stimulating the body's own natural collagen production, causing a more rapid turnover of cells, which helps the skin maintain its youthful glow. HIFU targets the brows and jowls as unique areas in particular, as well as lifting the neck area. While providing overall skin tightening and rejuvenation, there will be a noticeable improvement in facial contouring also, and in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Generally, in order to maintain the best results, this procedure should be repeated annually. Additionally, our clinic offers a wide variety of other top of the line non-surgical face lift treatments including the 8-point lift technique with dermal filler, Radiofrequency (RF), and PDO Thread Lifting.

  • What Is High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU)?

  • This is a completely safe, non-surgical ultrasound treatment that uses the body's own regenerative response to gently and gradually lift skin. The areas that most benefit from the treatment are the eyebrows, under the chin and on the neck, while it also smoothes lines and the fine crepe-like skin and wrinkles on the décolletage. The treatment demonstrably counteracts the negative effects of gravity and time.

  • How does HIFU stimulate collagen production?

  • Collagen production is regenerated by the deposit of focused ultrasound energy deep beneath the skin at the optimal temperature. The treatment activates a natural process, known as neocollagenesis, which is the production of fresh, new collagen cells. There are no creams, fillers or toxins involved. This process simply depends on the body's own collagen-building abilities to bring about natural, noticeable results.

  • Who is a good candidate for HIFU?

  • A good HIFU candidate has mild to moderate skin laxity where the skin begins to feel and look less firm. Examples include a lowered eyebrow line, loose skin on the neck, sagging under the chin, and lines or wrinkles on the chest. Of course, the best way to find out if you’re a suitable candidate is to consult with a practitioner.

  • Is this treatment safe?

  • The treatment is safe, effective and suitable for all skin types without any side effects. The HIFU procedure has been used safely in over 250,000 treatments worldwide. Ultrasound energy itself has been used safely in the medical field for more than 50 years.

  • Is this treatment painful?

  • The treatment is not pain-free, however, it is completely bearable. There is a strange sensation, which is like a combination of heat with a little bit of bearable tinkling and pain.

  • Are there any side effects?

  • The skin might appear flushed at first, this can be during treatment but sometimes lasting longer, the redness should however disappear within a few hours. Some clients experience slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to the touch, but these are temporary in nature. Other, less common post-procedural effects may include temporary bruising or numbness on small areas of skin. As with any cosmetic procedure, there is the possibility of other rare effects, which your practitioner will review with you.

  • How long does it take to see results and how long do they last?

  • After your HIFU Treatment, you may see some initial effect, but the ultimate results will take place over 2-3 months, as your body naturally regenerates collagen. Since the procedure stimulates your own collagen production, how long the results last really depends on you. The treatment produces new collagen on the inside, but your natural aging process will dictate how long that translates into visible results on the outside.

  • When will I notice the results of HIFU?

  • Results are visible after just one treatment; however, it will take a couple of months until it is getting visible.

  • How long will a HIFU treatment take?

  • The length of the treatment will depend on the area being treated and your individual treatment plan. A full face and neck procedure typically takes 45-60 minutes, while a chest treatment on its own takes approximately 30 minutes.

  • What does HIFU feel like?

  • As the ultrasound energy is delivered, you will feel tiny amounts of energy being deposited to precise depths, indicating that the collagen-building process has been initiated. Comfort levels vary from person to person, but the sensation only lasts while the ultrasound energy is being delivered.

  • What is the suitable age for this kind of treatment?

  • This process can start from as early as our late twenties and can continue to take effect thereon. It may be less effective on over 75 years old patients

  • Will I need to take time off work?

  • With a single HIFU treatment, there is no downtime. After your procedure, you can resume your normal activities immediately, without having to follow any special post-treatment measures. We have even had clients come up to the clinic on their lunch break to have the treatment, no creams required and your general skincare plan and make-up can be applied as normal.

  • How many HIFU treatments will I need?

  • Most clients only need one treatment. However, this may be based on the degree of skin laxity, the biological response to ultrasound energy and the individual’s collagen-building process, some clients may benefit from additional treatments. Because skin continues to age, future touch-up treatments can help clients keep pace with the body’s natural aging process.

  • Can HIFU replace a facelift procedure?

  • HIFU treats the deep foundational layer addressed in cosmetic surgery, but won’t duplicate the results of a facelift. However, it is a great alternative, especially for those not ready for surgery or for patients
