Intense Puled Light (IPL)

While not technically lasers, Intense Pulsed Light Devices are their "equivalents"; using the same concept as selective photothermolysis to remove unwanted hair. IPL is suited for all shades and types of hair from the fairest to the darkest, with the exception being for non-pigmented hair.

  • The most commonly available hair reduction method

  • Works on most skin types

  • Best results produced in darker hair & lighter skin colour

  • Customisable based on hair, skin colour, and hair depth

  • Surrounding skin not susceptible to injury

  • Potential side effects reduced to the minimum

  • What is IPL?

  • IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light is a type of light therapy. It is used in a variety of dermatological procedures including hair removal.

  • How do IPL and Laser Hair removal technology differ?

  • IPL has multiple wavelengths (all between 500 and 1,200 nano-metres) that scatter within the skin. Laser treatments have just one specific wavelength emitted on what you're targeting.

  • What are the risks of IPL hair removal?

  • There may be some redness and swelling after the treatment but this usually only lasts one or two days. Sometimes there can be an increase or loss of pigmentation (dis-colouration) in the skin. Sometimes the skin pigment cells (melanocytes) can get damaged leaving paler or darker skin patches. There have been very few cases where skin texture may have changed slightly. IPL has very rarely caused scarring. It may not be particularly very effective on lighter hair colours such as white, blonde and red.

  • How many treatments are typicality required?

  • A minimum course of 10-12 sessions is the norm. Your aesthetic practitioner will expertly assess the number of treatments you will require during your personal consultation.

  • Which areas can be treated?

  • Almost all areas can be treated with laser hair removal

  • When will I notice results?

  • Within days you will notice that the number of hairs growing in a treated area has been diminished following each treatment.

  • Does IPL cause scarring?

  • All hair removal methods can create a risk of scarring, this potential reaction is included in the consent forms you will need to sign before any laser treatment can be performed. You can be assured that the risk of scarring from this method is highly unlikely. The propensity to scarring involves many factors which include but is not limited to the following:
